[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-10-25 Summary: Want to know more about NASCAR? Here's the book. ... Mark Martin is one of my favorite NASCAR drivers. And he is the author of this book, "NASCAR for Dummies." Burned by her former fiancé, Dana isn't exactly eager to be swept off her feet by someone who'll disappear after dessert. She tells Braden he's off the hook, but he says they're on. His sponsor—a matchmaking Web site—is counting on him. And he's counting on her to swoon on cue for the cameras. Not too difficult—Braden is much...more
The Physics of NASCAR: How to Make Steel + Gas + Rubber = Speed
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-09-16 Summary: Physics lessons + NASCAR = fun! ... A physics teacher gives us some remedial physics lessons in "The Physics of NASCAR". She covers areas that you would expect, such as force and intertia, but goes on to cover the color spectrum and even some baxic metallurgy. The physics lessons are fairly simple. I did get some reminders of things I had forgotten and even some new information but I also learned a lot about how NASCAR works too. The book is very interesting on both fronts. Nothing too challenging. A very enjoyable read. ...more

[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-08-25 Summary: Fun book! ... I learned a TON from this little book. Reading it has increased my science literacy significantly (that will let you know how weak I am in science... I was a music major in college and studied the social sciences in graduate school. Hard science background? Basically none) This is a fun title, and a great way to get people solid science content "on the sly." However, as a newer NASCAR fan, I found the book absolutely essential. The depths of this wonderful American sport are difficult to describe to the uninitiated. ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-10-28 Summary: Moonshine & Fast Wheels ... Driving with Devil is a book that is required reading in one of my Appalachian class this fall semester. It is a colorful story of the men who created the birth of stock car racing;what we now know as NASCAR. The choice of cars of the 1930's was the Ford V-8. The mechanics tinkered with the cars until they could fly across steep mountain roads at 100 miles an hour. Ray Parks, Red Byron and Red Vogt emerged as the first stock car team. Theirs is a story of how moonshine and fast cars merged to create a new sport for ...more

The stories of Red Byron, Roy Hall, Lyod Seay, Red Vogt, the Flock brothers and many more! Just one of those books that I couldn't put down. Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | “Moonshiners put more time, energy, thought, and love into their cars than any racer ever will. Lose on the track and you go home. Lose with a load of whiskey and you go to jail.” —Junior Johnson, NASCAR legend and one-time whiskey runner Today’s NASCAR is a family sport with 75 million loyal fans, which is growing bigger and more mainstream by the day. Part Disney, part Vegas, part Barnum & Bailey, NASCAR is also a multibillion-dollar business and a cultural phenomenon that transcends...more
Back On Track (Harlequin Nascar)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-14 Summary: Fascinating interplay here -- ... Hoo, boy! I found this to be a fascinating story on many levels--one of which was the romance between the older couple! Yes. More of this sort of thing, please! If you've ever wondered what it is, exactly, that a sports psychologist does, this book will give you an inside look at how it works in auto racing. This career field didn't exist yet when I was racing, but my limited experience with racing as with life, tells me it can only help. Of course, the main character being named Kelly didn't interfere with my enjoyment ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2007-05-09 Summary: more a character study than a NASCAR romance ... The two rivals for the NASCAR championship are Danny Cruise and Trent Matheson with most people picking the latter. However, on a national TV show sports psychologist Kelly Greenwood believes Danny will win the Charlotte race this weekend as Trent is inconstant and just won; his pattern is to lose following a victory because of the off-track distractions. When her prediction proves true almost to the letter, Trent's brother Chad hires Kelly to help his sibling concentrate better, but leaves it to her to convince her ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Maybe Kelly Greenwood shouldn't have been so...honest when she lambasted NASCAR pretty boy Trent Matheson on national TV. All the sports psychologist wanted was to give a memorable sound bite. But maybe she took it too far? Because now Trent's team wants Kelly to devise a plan to whip their on-again, off-again racing star into shape. There's just one hitch -- Trent doesn't think he needs some "professional" to dig into his psyche, especially someone who is totally unimpressed by him. And...more
Growing Up NASCAR: Racing's Most Outrageous Promoter Tells All
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | In 1949, when Humpy Wheeler was 11, he attended the very first NASCAR race. For the next ten years, he spent as much time in the pits as he could, and came to know many of the sport’s pioneers. Eventually, Wheeler began promoting races at Carolina tracks such as Concord Speedway, Robinwood Speedway, and Starlight Speedway. Racing was so rough back then he kept a gun by his side when he paid the purse, and often used his fists to keep order. By the time Wheeler retired in 2008, he...more
The NASCAR Way: The Business That Drives the Sport
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-08-12 Summary: NASCAR Is a Great Business ... NASCAR is a great business and International Speedway Corporation is a company that benefits from the sport the most. I bought this book because due to the economic recession fewer people attended races and the stock price of International Speedway Corporation fell to an attractive level. The owners of NASCAR own a substantial portion of International Speedway Corporation, which makes this company possess an incredible competitive advantage. The author also describes the entire racing business and how it compares to ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2000-08-28 Summary: Great insight into what drives the sport ... Before this book, my opinion of the sport ranked up there with my opinion of most politicians. However, a recent slight interest prompted me to buy it. I read it quickly and truly enjoyed it. Not only does it offer great insight into what drives the sport, but it gives a new fan (or someone with slight curiousity) an incredible appreciation of the sport, its athletes, the fans, and the people behind the scenes. After this book, I am a NASCAR fan. ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2000-03-11 Summary: An Inside View of NASCAR ... I'm not a racing fan, but I am a person who enjoys a good book with a great story. In The NASCAR Way, Robert Hagstrom takes the reader into every facet of the sports organization that is NASCAR. If you have an appreciation for the sport, this will be a great book for you, if not, you like me may gain an appreciation of both the sport and the NASCAR way of doing things. How this empire rose from a few bootleggers engaging in afternoon challenges to a multi-billion dollar industry is fascinating. Perhaps the most fascinating ...more

[2] ... Review | The author of The Warren Buffett Way gets behind the steering wheel of professional stock car racing--NASCAR, to be exact--making a few gushing laps around the track of America's largest and fastest-growing spectator sport. Although filled with plenty of local color, The NASCAR Way primarily focuses on the phenomenal financial success of a sport that began in the tiny, dirt-road hamlets of Dixie. Originally a way for moonshine runners to compete against each other by the light of day in informal--and...more

He began reading this title with her last night and was excited to have another way to talk with her about some of the history of his favorite sport.
